Sold
2008 West Wight Potter 15' Sailboat
I've been the only owner.
Fully documented that I bought it new August 2007. It was delivered March 2008.
Mainly used as a day sailer on Clinton Lake in Central Illinois.
The West Wight Potter is a unique boat, loved by its owners with strong class forums and clubs.
The smallest cabin cruiser with sloop rigging (mainsail & jib). It is stable, flatbottomed, and beachable. A joy to sail.
I'm 72 and at high risk of complications if I catch the Coronavirus, so I can only offer delivery at my house in Champaign, Illinois or my Credit Union in Rantoul, Illinois, 17 miles north of Champaign. Shipping may be feasible (see below). I also must insist that we complete the deal outside with 12 foot Social Distancing. I'm sorry, but I can't let you in the house, even to go to the bathroom. The Credit Union has a nice bathroom, however.
No deposit required. You may cancel at any time until you inspect the boat or waive the right to inspection (if you're getting it shipped), with a full refund of all payments completed until then. That means that you can show up to close the deal, and if you don't like what you see you can just walk away, with a full refund of any amount I have received.
I'll accept payment by check or cash, or a combination of both. If you pay in cash, we can close the deal at my Credit Union's parking lot in Rantoul, during their normal hours (9:00 - 5:00 M-W, 9:00 - 12:00 Sa). That's safer for both of us. You'll deposit the cash directly into my account. I've already gotten approval from the credit union's manager and I sold my Casita for cash that way two years ago. If you pay by check, the check must clear before we close the deal. I won't accept electronic payments or payments such as Paypal.
I looked into shipping and it looks feasible, although somewhat more complicated and probably too expensive for you. We would have to close the deal first by e-mail and mail, and then UPS or FedEX so you have the titles. You would have to make all the arrangements for shipping, and notify me when the shipper is due to show up at my house. The boat could be hauled on a flat bed truck, or could be towed on it's trailer. I'll prep the boat for shipping as best I can before the shipper arrives, but they would have to complete the rest of the preparation and load the boat without my help (except answering questions from 12 feet away). I'll take your advice on what to store inside the cabin, but unless the shipper wraps the boat in plastic some rain water might leak in through the edges of the hatch cover. There will be more items than could possibly fit in the cabin, so the shipper would have to carry some items inside their truck. To give you an idea of how much "stuff" there is, without anything in the cabin, all the items fill up the back of my RAV4 with the back seats down. Also, there's an issue of liability and loss between when we close, meaning the boat is legally yours, and when the shipper shows up. I called my insurance agent and she said that I would have no coverage and no responsibily because it is your property. We do have tornados here in Central Illinois.
Please look all the way down to the bottom of this web page, where I have declarations, including all known defects, with pictures. The exact same declarations will appear on the Invoice I send you and on the Bill of Sale I supply when you pick up the boat. All the defects are cosmetic only. The boat and trailer are in excellent condition and ready to sail. The hull is the Premium Package "Blue Water" hull, meaning it has extra thick fiberglass.
The larger pictures below, before the declarations text, were taken in the Summer of 2018, the last time the boat was rigged. The smaller pictures, and all pictures after the declarations text, were taken in July 2020. Nothing significant has changed in the last two years.
I'm happy to provide any details, answer any questions, and take new pictures of anything related to the sale. Just contact me.

Plus I'll probably throw in a number of additional items, such as a used freon boat horn and a well read The Complete Sailing Manual
This is the interior face of the hatch cover, removed from the hatch and put on a cockpit seat for enough lighting. The exterior face is shown below after the declarations text.
O.K., I'm cheating here. This is a picture of the underside of the Full Boat Cover.
The other side has a big dark stain on it from 11 years of being stored next to my house for the winter.
Declarations, including known defects:
These declarations will appear verbatim on the Invoice and Bill of Sale.
The boat has never had any capsizing, collision, or other significant trauma.
The boat has never been repaired other than the tiller handle and electrical box (see below).
The boat is all original as received from International Marine, other than the battery.
All hardware, access ports, and teak are original and solidly mounted as originally delivered.
The boat has not been rigged and sailed since the Summer of 2018.
Honda engine last run Summer of 2018. It started hard the first time, but after that it ran well.
Wood tiller was repaired with factory parts in the early 2010’s.
The oil bath wheel hubs on both trailer wheels were completely replaced with new parts in 2019.
The wheel trailer jack was replaced with a higher specification and higher quality jack, July 2020.
Mold problem in cabin in early 2010’s from winter storage. Thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
The gunwale bumper strip is stained all around.
The cabin top and cockpit fiberglass gel coat has dulled to matt over the years. Fixable with car wax.
Some Gelcoat cracks at stress points that do not penetrate the fiberglass matte. Cosmetic only.
Full Boat Cover is stained on top.
Cabin light switch works, but is “wonky” and hard to activate.
Original Electrical Switch Box was disassembled, tested, and reassembled, June 2020.
In Seller’s opinion, the Electrical Switch Box is not high quality, unlike the rest of the boat.
Corroded electric element in 12 V 10A fuse socket replaced with a 12V 10A automotive fuse.
Cigarette Lighter on Electrical Switch Box is corroded, stuck in the socket, and does not work.
Electrical Switch Box cover is missing one of six screws.
The connector at the bottom of the mast for the mast top light is giving a correct 12 V when on.
The light at the top of the mast has not been tested, but looks O.K. on inspection.
Otherwise electrical system is in excellent condition - running lights work, legal for night sailing.
The mast has normal wear and tear from sailing in its sail tracks and alignment. Fully functional.
The plywood hatch cover exterior face needs sanding and re-varnishing.
The rubber bow Vent Horn has sun damage on top, but is fully functional.
Paint on interior of the fiberglass hull in bilge is pealing. Cosmetic with no deterioration of hull.
The composite rudder has a slight curve in it. It came this way from the factory.
The Honda cover decals on 1 side are stained from a very slow oil drip from above in my garage.
A nylon clip on the stern boarding ladder broke and disappeared. The ladder is fully functional.
Normal cosmetic defects from 11 years of sailing and storage that do not affect functionality
This picture is inside the cabin directly below the Gel Coat cracks in the picture above. Notice that the cracks do not penetrate through the fiberglass matte below the Gel Coat. The cracks are cosmetic only.
